Abstract:Objective To compare the effects of hyaluronic acid (HA) injection versus combined poly-L-lactic acid and hyaluronic acid (PLLA+HA) injection in the supraorbital ridge on brow satisfaction and contour symmetry in patients undergoing ocular cosmetic surgery. Methods A total of 82 patients who underwent ocular cosmetic plastic surgery at Guizhou Limeikang Surgical Hospital Co., Ltd. from January 2024 to January 2026 were selected as the research subjects, and they were divided into the control group (n =40) and the observation group (n =42) according to different injected materials. The control group received HA injection in the supraorbital ridge, and the observation group received PLLA+HA injection in the supraorbital ridge. The brow satisfaction, contour symmetry, supraorbital ridge prominence and volume were compared between the two groups. Results The FACE-Q scores of the two groups at 3, 4 and 5 months after injection were higher than those before injection (P <0.05), and the scores further improved over time. The FACE-Q scores of the observation group at 3,4 and 5 months after injection were higher than those ofthe control group (P <0.05). The brow peak angles in the observation group at 3 and 4 months after injection were larger than those before injection (P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the brow peak angle between the two groups at 5 months after injection (P >0.05). The brow tail angle of the two groups was improved at 3 and 4 months after injection compared with that before injection (P <0.05). At 5 months after injection, the brow tail angle in the control group returned to baseline, whereas the observation group maintained continuous improvement. The brow tail angle of the observation group at 5 months after injection was better than that of the control group (P <0.05). The brow-orbital rim distance of the two groups at 3, 4 and 5 months after injection were increased compared with that before injection, with a greater increase in the observation group (P <0.05). The brow-upper eyelid margin distance of the observation group at 3, 4 and 5 months after injection was increased and was higher than that of the control group (P <0.05). At 3, 4 and 5 months after injection, the supraorbital ridge prominence in the two groups was higher than that before injection, and the volume was lower than that before injection (P <0.05). However, after 3 months, the prominence of the two groups slowly declined and the volume kept decreasing. At 3, 4 and 5 months after injection, the supraorbital ridge prominence and volume in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion The application of HA and PLLA+HA materials in ocular cosmetic surgery can achieve certain aesthetic improvements. In contrast, PLLA+HA can yield higher brow satisfaction and exert prominent value in improving contour symmetry.
