Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of acupoint catgut-embedding at eight trigram abdominal acupuncture points on TCM syndrome score and weight-loss efficacy in obese patients with spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction syndrome. Methods A total of 120 obese patients with spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction syndrome admitted to the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Yulin Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from November 2025 to April 2026 were selected. According to the random number table method, they were divided into the control group and the observation group, with 60 patients in each group. Both groups received lifestyle interventions including TCM acupuncture, dietary regulation, exercise therapy and behavioral therapy. On this basis, the control group was treated with sham catgut-embedding, and the observation group was treated with acupoint catgutembedding at eight trigram abdominal acupuncture points. The TCM syndrome score, weight-loss efficacy, body weight, body mass index (BMI) and body circumference indicators were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the TCM syndrome score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group (P <0.05). The total effective rate of the observation group (86.67%) was higher than that of the control group (71.67%) (P <0.05). After treatment, the body weight and BMI in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the waist circumference, hip circumference and waist-hip ratio in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P >0.05). Conclusion As an adjuvant therapy for obesity of spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction syndrome, acupoint catgut-embedding at eight trigram abdominal acupuncture points canfurther improve TCM syndrome score, reduce body weight and BMI, optimize body circumference parameters, and enhance weight-loss efficacy.
