Abstract:Objective: To investigate whether orthodontic treatment combined with porcelain veneers can improve the aesthetic appearance of anterior teeth in patients with gummy smile. Methods: A total of 102 patients with gummy smile from the Department of Stomatology at the Third People's Hospital of Gansu Province were enrolled from April 2022 to October 2024. They were randomly divided into a control group and a study group using a random number table, with 51 cases in each group. The control group received orthodontic treatment, while the study group received orthodontic treatment combined with porcelain veneers. The gingival exposure, smile aesthetics score, treatment efficacy, and gingival health status were compared between the two groups. Results: No significant differences were observed in gingival exposure or smile aesthetics score between the groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the study group showed lower gingival exposure (P<0.05) and higher smile aesthetics score (P<0.05) compared to the control group. In terms of treatment efficacy, the study group demonstrated superior outcomes (P<0.05). The gingival health status of the study group also showed significant improvement. All intergroup comparisons were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: Orthodontic treatment combined with porcelain veneers is effective in improving the aesthetic appearance of anterior teeth in patients with gummy smile. This method has significant clinical efficacy, high reliability, and high application value.
