The learning experience satisfaction at mid-term, final exam scores and student evaluation of teaching were compared between the two groups. Results The satisfaction scores of clarity of course content modules, adequacy of practical training and relevance to work in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the satisfaction score of ability improvement between the two groups (P >0.05). The scores of subjective and objective questions in the final exam of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group (P <0.05). The student evaluation score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (P >0.05). Conclusion The application of modular teaching in the teaching practice of higher vocational course "Medical Aesthetic Consultation and Communication" is helpful to optimize the structure of teaching content, effectively improve students' satisfaction with course content, practical training arrangement and post adaptability as well as exam scores, and will not affect the overall student evaluation of teaching.
